Iran Shiraz 12,13,14th Century
Seljuk
This caravansarai is located on the Shiraz.firuzabad highway.
It is situated next to a stream bed, at the narrowest point of the road. The caravansarai is now in ruins. It was built with the central space plan with four iwans.
There were special rooms for lodging and long, thin rectangular stables behind them. The entrance section of the building had two floors. Entry was through a door with an attached pointed arch, which has two radii. Access to the upper floor is through a door beside the entrance.
There is a square platform in the middle of the courtyard of the building.
This caravan road, between Firuzabad and Shiraz, was used continuously from the Seljuk period onward. It was heavily used during the Safavid period, when new caravansarai were built near the existing caravanserais, which had become ruined.
